The University of Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg is the only University of the Arts in the State of Brandenburg and one of the biggest and best-equipped Film Schools in Germany. Thanks to its location on the grounds of the renowned Studio Babelsberg, the HFF has become an integral part of the Potsdam-Babelsberg media centre, which is unique in Europe. In its distinct combination of academic, artistic and technological research with practical film and media production, it offers a highly attractive setting for creative and intellectual work. Students and researchers at the HFF can benefit from the expertise of the Institute for Artistic Research (IKF) and the Erich-Pommer-Institute (EPI) and have access to the collections of the Film Museum Potsdam as well as to the holdings of one of Germany’s largest specialized libraries on Film, Television and New Media with over 100.000 media items (books, journals etc), 20.000 videos and DVDs and over 3.5 million newspaper articles.

The main research areas at the HFF are: Film and Media Studies, Media Communication, Film and Audiovisual Media Heritage Studies, Digital Media and Media Technologies, Media Storytelling and Media Production.
